Perched high in the French Alps with over 250km of slopes and 300 days of sunshine a year, Serre Chevalier is one of the most popular ski resorts in southeast France. Yet this does not mean that the lights turn off during the summer months. Far from it, in fact.

In the summer months there is more than enough to keep you occupied, and the selection of
hotels in Serre Chevalier offers a fantastic range of accommodation choices. Establishments offer tailored summer packages that make Serre Chevalier an appealing choice for a summer getaway.

Just because you’re thousands of feet above sea level, it does not mean that you shouldn’t be able to enjoy a relaxing sunbathe on a beach. Serre Chevalier has two lakes available for bathing - La Salle les Alpes and Saint-Chaffrey. The biological lake at Saint-Chaffrey, which was artificially constructed, is a particularly enriching experience:the nearby mountains tower over you and there is nothing but natural beauty all around you. Spending hot summer days here immerses visitors in nature, while the freshwater is more refreshing than the sea.

White water rafting is one of the more adventurous activities available to you in the warm summer months, whether you’re a beginner or are used to rafting at a more advanced level. The Guisane Riverdrifts with the direction of the Serre Chevalier valley and the flow of melt water from the surrounding area is a fun, safe way to descend to Briançon. The journey takes around 2 hours, during which you’ll be transported through 8km of the most picturesque surroundings in the whole of the Alps.

Cycling enthusiasts are also well catered for in the region, with everything from road biking to mountain biking, BMX and downhill biking available. Four ski lifts remain open throughout the year to take mountain bikers and walkers up the mountain and there are off road trails open between 2,500 and 1,350m. Road bikers have miles and miles of mountain roads to explore, with some of the most famous climbs and descents in the cycling world, such as the Col du d’Izoard and the Col du Granon, right on your doorstep

If you’re looking for something a little more relaxing after all the exercise that you’ll be doing, why not visit one of the area’s many wellness spas? Le Christiania Hotel& Spa in the town of Villeneuve la Sale boasts a sauna, spa and hammam to help you recover from a hard day out and get you ready for the next one. There are several types of massage on offer, from the deep tissue sports massage to the relaxing ayurvedic massage, and for the ladies, there are facials, manicures and pedicures.

While a summer trip to a ski resort may seem odd at first, it soon becomes an obvious choice. Visitors enjoy a host of activities that are best enjoyed on the rugged terrain, yet appreciate the opportunity to relax in style and comfort.
